Afirmative sentences 

Subject + auxiliary verb (to be) + verb+ing. 

Negative Sentences

Subject + auxiliary verb (to be) + "not" + verb+ing.

Interrogative Sentences 

Auxiliary verb (to be) + subject + verb+ing? 

Uses 

1.It is used for an action in development in the past when another action interrupts it.

2.To talk about actions at a specific time in the past. 

3.For two actions that were occurring at the same time in the past.
